Animal Control

The City of Ozawkie is a pet friendly city, however the Animal Control Ordinances regulate the types and quantities of animals allowed within the city. It is unlawful to harbor a “pit bull” type dog or other potentially vicious breeds within the city. It is also unlawful to harbor certain exotic animals within the city.  It is also unlawful to harbor more than a combination of three animals (dogs or cats) within the city.

Our “leash law” forbids animals from running at large, both for the protection of our residents and for other animals within our city. Please take care to ensure that your pet is secured at all times either within a suitable enclosure or on a leash when walking.

All animals kept within the city need to be registered with the Ozawkie City Clerk on an annual basis. Current proof of vaccinations and Spay/Neuter records from a Licensed Veterinarian will be required before a city tag will be issued. This includes:

  1. Animals in permanent residency within the city.
  2. Animals visiting within the city for 30 days or longer.
